At home; Wadham College Oxford. Second Class Classics, Bachelor of Arts 1865, Master of Arts 1867. Master of Arts.
Ordained 1865 to curacy of Saint Jude’s, Mildmay, North. Took prominent part in Twelve Days’ Mission, 1869. Incumbent of Christ Church, Great Homer Street, Liverpool, 1871.
Resigned to be a MissionPreacher 1875. Was the means of founding Church Parochial Mission Society 1876 (originally the Aitken Memorial Fund, being a memorial to his father).
Visited the United States on a Mission Tour 1886, and again 1895-1896, when he worked also in Canada, the tour extending over six months.
Was invited by the Bishop of London to take part in the Fulham Conference on the subject of the Confessional, January 1902. Canon Residentiary of Norwich Cathedral since 1900. General Superintendent of the Church Parochial Mission Society since 1876.
