Argus was born in Auckland in 1921.
He played 10 matches for the All Blacks including four internationals. Since the death of Bob Scott in 2012, Argus has held the distinction of being the oldest living All Black. Argus served with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in North Africa and Italy during World World War II and played in the army"s "Kiwis" team after the end of the war, before returning to New Zealand.
A wing, Argus represented Canterbury at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, in 1946 and 1947.
