Mr. Sheldon acquired archi¬tectural training under the late George W. Cady and William R. Walker, and in 1880 secured a position with the well-known firm of Stone and Carpenter, which shortly after became Stone, Carpenter and Wilson. Following Mr. Wilson's death in 1908, Mr. Sheldon was invited to take his place in the firm, and continued a partner until forced to retire in 1926. During his many years in that association the firm was commissioned to design various business and public structures in Providence, noteworthy examples of which were the Union Trust Company Building; John Howland School, and the southwest wing of the Rhode Island State Hospital.
Independently Mr. Sheldon designed branch office buildings of the Industrial Trust Company of Providence, built at Westerly, and Warren, R. I., also a group of buildings for Marsden J. Perry at Newport, R. I.
