The firm of Payne, Loeb & Ray originated in 1897 when James M. Payne and W. Dallas Payne formed the firm of Payne & Payne. Berkeley Minor, Junior became associated with the firm in 1904. John V. Ray joined the firm in 1920, and when he became a partner in 1933, the firm name was changed to Payne, Minor & Ray.
The name was changed to Payne, Minor, Ray, Price & Loeb in 1955 when Charles W. Loeb became a partner. John L. Ray joined the firm in 1952 and became a partner in 1962. The name of the firm was changed to its current name in 1976.
The firm offers a wide range of legal services in general civil practice, concentrating in the areas of corporate, trust and estate, real estate, litigation and federal and state taxation law. Firm members frequently serve as lecturers in continuing legal education programs in West Virginia and in other states. They are also active in civic and community affairs serving as officers and board members of a variety of charitable organizations.
