( The StudyGuide has been designed to reinforce the mater...)
The StudyGuide has been designed to reinforce the material covered in German: A Structural Approach, Fourth Edition. To help students master material in the text, the Study Guide provides these study and review features: Grammar in a Nutshell sections, cross-referenced to analyses in the text, briefly summarize essential grammatical points. Frequently, diagrams are used to clarify important concepts. Programmed Exercises, with answers provided, enable students to instantaneously check their mastery of the grammatical "nutshells." Laboratory Exercises, keyed to each unit, can be used for individual work in conjunction with the audio program or for further oral drill in the classroom. Additional Exercises, printed on perforated pages, provide ample source for homework and review assignments. Additional Readings, new to the Fourth Edition, can be used to supplement readings in the text. In addition to several cultural reading, prose and poetry selections by Bichsel. Brecht, Rilke, Goeths, and Schmidt-Ingelheim, among other authors, are included.

( German: A Structural Approach, Fourth Edition, shares t...)
German: A Structural Approach, Fourth Edition, shares the basic aims of earlier editions: developing speaking, reading, and writing, while at the same time giving students a clear understanding of the structure of the language. Each UNIT consists of several parts. Pattern sentences, grammatical analysis, and practice exercises are subdivided into two or three sections. These are followed by conversations and conversational exercises (including many that prompt personal response and open-ended discussions), reading selections, review exercises, and lists of basic vocabulary. Interspersed in each unit are two or three culture notes. Throughout each unit there are ample illustrations of both cultural and linguistic value.
