Wanda Lee Hammerbeck Edit Profile
Hammerbeck earned a BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1967), and an MFA in Photography from San Francisco Art Institute, California (1976).
Since 1976 she has been a lecturer in photography at Holy Names College in Oakland, California. During 1971-72 she was director of the graduate center at the University of North Carolina, and from 1969 to 1971 she was assistant to that college's dean of women.
She won the Juror's Award, first place, for her MFA exhibition at San Francisco Art Institute in 1977 and a Photographer's Fellowship from NEA in 1979. Working in black-and-white and color, she has "consistently investigated the land and man's relationship to the land."
