Aroused controversy by opposing abolitionists. Partner (with Jeremiah S. Black) in law firm, 1865-1879. Practiced law, Denver, 1879-1886.

Published The Life of Abraham Lincoln from his Birth to His Inauguration as President (Chauncy Black), 1872.
