Career
Mendis was officially ordained a Catholic priest on July 20, 1985. He was appointed a Coadjutor Bishop of Chilaw on January 17, 2005 by His Holiness John Paul World War II He was consecrated a Bishop on April 2, 2005. Bishop Mendis succeeded Bishop Frank Marcus Fernando as the Bishop of Chilaw on October 19, 2006.
He is currently Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Sri Lanka.
He is a former student of Saint Sebastian"s College, Moratuwa, Prince of Wales" College, Moratuwa, the University of Peradeniya and the Pontifical Urban University, Rome.
