Garst, Warren was born on December 4, 1850 in Dayton, Ohio, United States. Son of Michael and Maria Lauri (Morrison) Garst.

Career

Removed with parents to Illinois, 1858. Entered mercantile business at Boone, Iowa, 1869, and later at Coon Rapids. Also farmer and banker.

Member Iowa Senate, 25th to 31st General Assemblies (chairman appropriation committee for 5 sessions). Elected lieutenant governor of Iowa, November 1906, and became governor, November 25, 1908, on account of resignation of Governor Cummings (elected to the United States Senate). Term expired January 1, 1909.
