My father, Bill Spencer, lived his life in pursuit of a dream; to teach. He achieved most of it before developing Alzheimer's. After ten years, he finally let go. But he never stopped teaching. When he was only 18, Dad lost his father who was only 53. He worked while going to college, helped at home, and fought in Italy during the War (ll). He lost his brother, Lynn in a battle in France. He wrote once: "...think of two soldiers far away from those we loved, in strange lands, taught to kill when all we wanted was life. Lynn was denied it; I was given it; could I possibly then fail in my civilian life?" When I was drafted during the Vietnam War, he said that no matter what I decided to do, he would support me 100%. He helped me see that what others might think of me was none of my business. "Learn as much as you can about the world around you, keep focused on the things you think are important, and your life will be filled with success". I owe much to him for giving me the opportunity to be what I chose to be in my life. He helped me by giving me the tools to see, to think, to question and to determine my own path. The rest of it was about showing up and being there. "Let it be what it is"!
