Cooper was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the 2nd round (40th overall) of the 1978 National Basketball Association Draft. A 6 ft 10 in (21 m) forward-center from the University of New Orleans, Cooper played in 14 National Basketball Association seasons from 1978 to 1992. He played for the Warriors, Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets.
