Yu Wenxia is a Chinese model and beauty queen. She won Miss World 2012 in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia. This is the second time Miss China has been awarded the title. The last time was in 2007 when Zhang Zilin took the honour. She is also the second Miss World titleholder of East Asian origin.
Education
Her family moved home when Wenxia was just 5 years old, because her parents wanted their children to attend a good school and receive good education. Wenxia Yu dreamed of becoming a famous singer as a child. She has always possessed the spirit of a winner: one of her proudest moments was the day she finished 4th place in a race against 180 other children in the third grade. As a child she enjoyed classes in music and nature. She has always loved music and singing and started singing classes at the age of 8.
She completed a 4 year university course in Chinese Folk Music at Harbin University, and would often entertain her friends with her powerful and impressive voice. Wenxia is also known for her opera talents as well. She is fluent in both Chinese and English.
Career
Yu Wenxia is a music student who says she wants to become a music teacher. Wenxia Yu won the 2012 Miss World pageant held in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, China. She was also named Miss Talent, where she performed her winning talent - Chinese folk song on stage during the final. She became the second titleholder from her country, after Zhang Zilin of China in 2007.
When asked how she felt at winning the Miss World crown, she replied: “Surprised and very happy. Winning Miss World is a big responsibility; there is so much to learn. I really admire Zhang Zilin, my country’s first Miss World winner, I hope to follow her example, but at the same time make my own mark. I very much look forward to working with the Miss World Organisation sharing my compassion and love and helping to improve the lives of many people throughout my year of reign".
After winning the award, Yu Wenxia said that she hoped to use the crown to make children around the world feel lucky. She said: “When I was young I felt very lucky because so many people helped me and I hope in the future, I can help more children to feel lucky.”
By far during her reign of Miss World, Wenxia had traveled to China, United Kingdom, South Africa and France. She has spent numerous trips in London, Beijing, Paris, Shanghai and returned to Harbin.
During September and October, Wenxia had participated in several fashion weeks, including two of the Big 4 Fashion Weeks - London and Paris as well as Shanghai Fashion Week.
