DeMott obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Old Dominion University in 1978.
Before starting his career, DeMott served in the United States Naval Reserve in 1972. From 1982 till 1985, he held a position of a special agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington. He was an independent businessperson in Virginia, Florida, and Ohio, for ten years from 1985 and also worked at the insurance company Aetna as a property claims representative. He has also worked as an actor.
DeMott is engaged in writing activity from 1995.
