Prabook is the largest English language biographical encyclopedia with the most diversified content on the Internet. It combines articles on famous people with archival content on lesser known individuals important to their local communities. Prabook database currently consists of 3 million biographies, 1.2 million of which are public and the rest 1.8 million available only to subscribers.
Prabook does not have popularity criteria, and instead focuses on an ambitious goal to preserve information about any person who ever lived. This makes its database both the largest and unique, as most of Prabook’s content covers biographies of people who cannot get into other encyclopedias because of their little worldwide fame. Nowadays Prabook has as much biographies of celebrities and historical people as any other encyclopedia, while also having unrivaled collection of articles on lesser known people.
Initially, Prabook was created as a tool for gathering information about people from scattered editions of various biographical dictionaries. These sources, being left in left in obscurity, have unfortunately lost their purpose of preserving human lives for future generations. In order to bring them back to life, a technology was developed that allows to extract information from different public sources, refine, parse and then merge it into unique full profiles.
Prabook combines textual information with detailed archival photo albums, pictures, and other media content that conveys ideas and the spirit of the times. It also offers diverse search options to navigate through its vast database. Site search is able to give accurate results on strict queries, while also allowing to find information by context when people’s names are unknown.
