Background

Wilder, Wilbur Elliott was born on August 16, 1856 in in Michigan. Son of Elliott S. and Sylvia (Gilkey) Wilder.

Education

Graduated from the United States Military Academy, 1877.

Career

Second lieutenant, 4th Cavalry, 1877, promoted through grades to colonel, 1911. Retired, 1920; brigadier general by special acting of Congress, 1927. Served as big. general N.A., 1917-1919.

Served on frontier until 1895, in many Indian campaigns and engagements. Adjunct United States Military Academy, 1895-1898. Superintendent Yellowstone National Park, commanding Fort Yellowstone, Wyoming, March-June 1899.

In Philippine Islands, commanded Macabebe Scouts 1899-1900 and superintendent of police, Manila, 1901. Commander 168th Infantry Brigade, Camp Taylor, Kentucky, 1917. In France, 1918-1919.

Bvtd. captain, 1890, for gallant service in action agsinst Indians, at Horse Shoe Canyon, New Mexico, 1882.
