Career
Like Reinhard Heydrich, Krüger was assassinated by resistance fighters. General Krüger was sent by Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler to make the destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto an example to the Polish underground saboteurs, and had announced that the Germans would "eliminate" the neighborhood and its residents. Instead, Kruger was ambushed and fatally wounded in Krakow by three guerrilla fighters on May 2, 1943.
He was the highest ranking, among 500 Germans, to die during the resistance.
