The George W. Marston House, or George Marston House and Gardens, also referred to as the George and Anna Marston House or the Marston House, is a museum and historic landmark located in San Diego and maintained by Save Our Heritage Organisation.
Will Sterling Herbard was born in 1863 in Michigan, United States.
He began architectural study at Cornell University. Later (1885) Mr. Hebbard won a scholarship and had two years in European schools.
He started work in Chicago tor the firm of Burnham & Root, but remained in that office less than a year Leaving for California in 1888, he settled in Los Angeles, afterward moved in San Diego where he was continuously active, except for an interim during the first World War, until his death.
During one period, from 900 to 1907 he carried on practice under the firm name of Hebbard & Gill (associated with Irving Gill and in that partnership devoted his time to residential work. The firm planned a number of large houses in Newport, R. I., Bar Harbor, Maine and elsewhere in New England buildings that were designed in the simplified style adopted by the followers of the late Louis Sullivan, of which Mr. Gill was a leading spirit. Independently he planned a number of schools, of which the State Normal group in San Diego, was an outstanding example, built between 1896 and 1907. Among other works credited to him is the Maryland Hotel, San Diego, 1915, and the Leland School in Los Angeles.
