Career
Willem Roux practises as a partner at Bowman Gilfillan Hayman Godfrey Inc., a South African law firm. His legal practice combines general practice with corporate and commercial law, taxation, real estate, and deceased estates law. Deceased estates law concerns the administration of a person's property after death, while taxation work involves advice on the liabilities and obligations that arise under a country's revenue legislation.
The firm's origins lie in Johannesburg legal practice of the late nineteenth century. In 1893, Douglas Flemmer Gilfillan moved to Johannesburg and founded a law firm that later became known as Bowman Gilfillan. The modern firm was formed in 1998 through the merger of three practices: Bowman Gilfillan Hayman Godfrey, established in 1902, Findlay & Tait, established in 1885, and John & Kernick, established in 1923.
The group now operates under the name Bowmans and is headquartered in Johannesburg. It is counted among the so-called Big Five law firms in South Africa and has offices in several African countries, with a practice focused on corporate, banking, and dispute resolution work.
