Career
Ellis was born in Topsham, Maine, and later moved to Peshtigo, Wisconsin. He worked as a superintendent for the Peshtigo Lumber Company. He also served as the local postmaster for a time, and also served on the town and county boards.
He died in Peshtigo on November 21, 1900.
