Obtaining after that the degree of Bachelor of Arts, he took holy orders, and entered the church as curate of Saint George"s, Barnsley, Yorkshire. He left Barnsley in 1858 to become incumbent of Hayfield, Derbyshire. He died at Hayfield on 27 April 1863, and was buried there.
