Served in 32nd Light Infantry (Doctor of Civil Law I.), 1866-1893, being adjutant for nine years. Chief Staff-Officer Cape Colony Colonial Forces, 1879-1882, during Basuto War. D.A.A. and Quartermaster-General China and Straits Settlements, 1883-1887.
Headquarters Staff in Ireland, 1887-1888. Assistant- Military Secretary in South Africa, 1890-1892. Commanded infantry brigade in Egyptian army, 1893-1896.
On lines of communication in Dongola and Soudan Expedition, 1896-1898. Decorations: Zulu War, Egypt, 1882, Soudan 1896-1898 (5 war medals, 3rd class Medjidie, Companion of the Bath). Retired; late Chief Staff Officer, Belfast District.
