Gave charitable donations totaling $5,000,000 to various instns., including Columbia University, Ascension Protestant Episcopal Church, University of Virginia, College William and Mary, Virginia Military Institute, Washington and Lee University, Episcopal Theological Seminary, Protestant Orphan Asylum, Academy of the Visitation of Washington.
