Began controversy with patriot party in New Jersey, 1765. At outbreak of Revolutionary War, captured and imprisoned as Loyalist. President Board Associate Loyalists, New York City, 1778. Loyalist leanings led to break with father. Went permanently to England, 1782. Reconciled with father, 1784.
