Goddard, William was born on December 25, 1825 in Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. Son of William Giles and Charlotte (Ives) Goddard.

Career

After graduation studied law. Traveled extensively. Engaged in mercantile and manufacturing business.

Member Providence Common Council, 1852-1855. Was member 1st light infantry. Major 1st regiment Rhode Island detached militia.

Commissioned colonel vols. for gallantry at battle of Bull Run, aide-de-camp on General Burnside’s staff before Fredericksburg, December 11, 1862. Head of firm of Brown & Ives, merchants, founded in 18th century. Member firm of Goddard Brothers, and president Providence National Bank.

Trustee Brown U., since 1857, chancellor, since 1888. Home: Providence, and Warwick, R.I.
