He was born in Daviot, Aberdeenshire on 19 September 1866 and educated at University College School and Keble College, Oxford and ordained in 1895.

Career
After curacies at Street Margaret Roath and All Saints’ Bristol he was Chaplain of Street Ninian"s Cathedral, Perth. He was Rector of Street James’, Dollar and then Street Mary's Dunkeld after which he was Dean of Street Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane from 1938 until his death on 22 February 1940.
