Called to Bar, Inner Temple, and joined Cape Bar, 1878. Practised at Cape Town and Grahamstown till 1883. At Kimberley from 1883.
Crown Prosecutor for Griqualand West, 1885-1892. Queen’s Counsel 1890. Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court, Cape Colony, March 1892, and assigned to the High Court of Griqualand.
On staff of Field Marshal Lord Roberts as legal adviser at Bloemfontein, March, April, May, 1900. Assigned to Supreme Court. Cape Town, temporarily 1904 and permanently 1907. Puisne Judge, Cape Colony.
