Career
Born and educated in Ireland, he migrated to Australian in 1876 and became a farm worker and eventually a farmer at Corowa. Killen held Riverina until his retirement in 1931, after which he returned to farming. He died in 1939.

Membership
From 1920-1922 he was the President of the Farmers and Settlers" Association, and in 1922 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as a member of the Country Party, defeating Nationalist Member of Parliament John Chanter for the seat of Riverina. Killen"s grandson, David Leitch, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1973 to 1978.
