In charge of operations to connect the triangulation of England with Germany through France and Belgium in 1860-1861.

Chairman of Poor Law and Lunacy Inquiry Commission, Ireland, 1877-1879. Justice of the Peace for London, Westminster, Middlesex, and Buckinghamshire.
