He served an apprenticeship in architecture under the late Albert Lybrook. Later he went to Washington, D. C to continue his training in the office of William Poindexter (a naitve of Richmond and a personal friend), and after leaving there worked for a short time with the firm of Hornblower & Marshall.
Returning to Baltimore in 1887 Mr. Nolting formed a partnership with the late James B. Wyatt, and continued that association until the latter’s death in 1925. A popular and successful architectural firm, Wyatt & Nolting designed a number of important public and commercial buildings in Baltimore and elsewhere in Maryland. Noted examples of their work were the Baltimore County Court House, won in competition from Mr. Nolting’s own desian erected between 1896 and 1899; Fifth Regiment Armory Building 1902, Harriet Lane House (Home for Invalid Children) at Johns Hopkins Hospital; Garrett Bank and office Building. 1913; Keyset office Building (where the firm established offices), all in Baltimore, and in Washington, D. C. the War Risk Insurance Building, later taken over by the Veterans' Administration.
A long-time member of the A. I. A. he was raised to Fellowship in 1901.
