Ordained by Bishop Wilberforce, ! 1867. Appointed Vice-Principal of Queen’s College, I St. John’s, N.F., and subsequently became: Principal. Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society 1891.
A Fellow of St. i Augustine’s College, Canterbury. President of the Council of Higher Education. Is interested in the origin and traditions of the Eskimos of Labrador, and in the history of the Red Indians (extinct) of Newfoundland.
Has twice received thanks of Imperial Government, viz. for a History of Education in Newfoundland, and for inaugurating a Patriotic Fund for relief of distress in South Africa. Imperial Service Order 1904; Canon of the Cathedral, St. John’s, Newfoundland; Sup. of Church of England Schools in Newfoundland since 1875; Episcopal Commissary of the Bishop of Newfoundland, 1905.
