He completed a course in Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
When he was twenty years of age began practice under the firm name of Proudfoot & Bird, with an office first at Wichita, Kans., later at Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1911 Mr. Rawson became a third partner in the organization with headquarters in Des Moines, and during the next several years the firm prepared plans for the Hotel Fort, Equitable Office Building, completed in 1925, and the Register Building.
Earlier in his career Mr. Proudfoot assisted in designing the Iowa State Building at the 1904 Exposition in St. Louis, and a number of buildings at Iowa State College.
