He first formed a partnership with Allen Cox and after the latter's death organized the firm of Putnam, Griswold, Wylde & Ames.
The firm of Putnam & Cox was well known in Boston as architects of the American Unitarian Association Building, additions to the Bellevue Hotel on Deacon Hill, the Copley Theatre, and several apartment houses on Stuart btreet. fhe partners also designed the Jones Library and Jeffrey Inn at Amherst, Mass., several buildings at Mount Holyoke College, Fraternity Houses at Amherst College, new dormitories at Mount Holyoke College, and the Skinner Citation and Clapp Science Buildings.
