He studied Architecture at the University of Marburg.
After graduating when he was nineteen, came to the U.S. to begin his career. He arrived in Nashville, Tenn., before the start of the Civil War, and during hostilities served as draftsman to General Thomas of the Army of the Cumberland. After the War Strippleman worked for a brief time in New Orleans, La., later opened an office in Galveston, Texas, where among other works he designed the Opera House, one of his most successful buildings.
In 1868 Mr. Stripplemen went to Chicago, and remained there the rest of his life. After serving four years on the Board of Public Works, he resumed private practice, and in designing stores and industrial buildings continued active until his death.
