Studied at private school. Trinity College Dublin. Bachelor of Medicine.
Entered the service, 1858. Served in Royal Artillery in New Zealand Wars, Taranaki Campaign, 1860-1861, and Waikato Campaign, 1863-1865. Present in i actions of Teairei, Rangiriri, Rangiawhia, et cetera
(despatches, Victoria Cross “for gallant conduct during the assault on the enemy’s position at Rangiriri, in exposing his life to imminent danger in crossing the entrance to the Maori keep at a point on which the enemy had concentrated their fire, with a view to render assistance to the wounded, more especially the late Captain Mercer, Resident Advisor”).
While serving in India, was appointed Honorary Surgeon to His Excellency the Viceroy, in recognition of services in that country. Victoria Cross, Bachelor of Arts, L.R.C.S.I. Army Medical Staff, retired pay.
