After studies he joined his father's office as student draftsman, and after being taken into partnership in 1881, remained a member of the firm of William R. Walker & Son the rest of his life.
Among the important works of the firm during that period were State Armories in Pawtucket and Providence; Town Halls in East Providence, Warwick and Cumberland; the Narragansett Hotel in Providence (1875), the City Hall in Fall River (a later work), and a number of public schools, churches and theatres in Providence. During his years of practice Mr. Walker was well known among his colleagues, also served prominently in Masonic and Military organizations, in the latter a Quartermaster of the General Militia from 1892 to 1912.
