From 1938-1949 he was the supervisor of the Queensland Primary Correspondence School, a statewide organization with over 5000 students. He was an early advocate of teaching English literacy throughout the curriculum. At Nambour Rural School, where he taught from 1928, he encouraged the study of fruit packing.
