William Bertolette Plank, American mining engineer.


Plank, William Bertolette was born on June 24, 1886 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of David Heber (Doctor of Medicine and Ida Eugenie (Bertolet) P.


Preparatory education, Keystone State Normal School. Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, Pennsylvania State College, 1908, Engineer of Mines, 1909.


1 daughter, Adaline Jane. Instructor School of Mines, Pennsylvania State College, 1908-1909. Mining engineer with Philadelphia & Reading Coal & Iron Company, Shamokin, Pennsylvania, 1909-1912, Pittsburgh Coal Company, 1912-1916.

With United States Bureau Mines, 1916-1920, successively as junior mining engineer (Pittsburgh), assistant mining engineer (Pittsburgh), mining engineer (Urbana, Illinois) district mining engineer (Birmingham, Alabama). Head department mining and metallurgical engineering and John Markle professor, Lafayette College, 1920-1952, emeritus professor, since 1952. Now consultant mining engineer, director Boys Engineering Conference of College, 1934-1936.

Director A.S.T.P. engineering studies, 1943-1944. Coordinator, United States Army Ordnance Research Project, Lafayette College, 1944-1945.
