Career
Secretary and Vice president Cambridge Debating Society. Lieutenant 4th West Yorkshire Militia, 1888. Volunteers, 1886-1887: worked for Scotch Education Department,1898-1906.
Inspector Board ofAgriculture, 1894-1897.
Private Secretary to Sir H. Meysey Thompson, 1899-1901. To Duke of Marlborough, 1905-1909.
Contested Morley Division, West Riding,1900. Dewsbury,1906and 1908.
Rochdale, 1910; Vice-President and member of Committee of Y orkshire Union of Conservative Associations.
On National Union Organisation Committee. Has “slummed” in Leeds, London,Paris,Vienna, and Berlin. Lived amongst navvies on Manchester Ship Canal, and during the making of the East and West Railway, Lincoln to Chesterfield.
Travelled in Australian Colonies and Europe, studying education and industrial questions, systems of old age pensions.
Lectured on historical and social subjects. Honourable Secretary Marylebone Voluntary Schools Committee, 1902-1905.
Conducted enquiry into glove trade, Grenoble and Brussels, 1909. Appointed 1905 one of the collaborators in England for American Institute of Social Service.
