Named Sportswriter of the Year, State of Pennsylvania, 1977, 79-85; recipient 76 state and national awards for writing, Best Newspaper Writing award American Society Newspaper Editors, 1980, National Headliner award, 1988; 6-time nominee for Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary; inducted into Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, 1989. With infantry United States Army, 1961.


Lyon, William Carl was born on February 10, 1938 in Carmi, Illinois, United States. Son of Clyde William and Harriet Kathryn (Murphy) Lyon.
