Studied at Royal Naval School, New Cross. Cheltenham College. Is lltli in direct descent, from father to son, of Archibald “ Bell-the-Cat,” 5th Earl of Angus, being descended from James, 2nd son of Sir Archibald Douglas, 1st of Glenbervie (the est son, Sir William, becoming 9th Earl of Angus). Spent some years in the United States.
Joined the militia in 18S1. As senior major commanded batt. at Aldershot, and was in charge of detachment in London on occasion of Jubilee celebration, 1897. Served in South African campaign, 1901-1902 as Commandant at Bosliof, O.R.C., and in acting command of his batt.
