In Saint Louis business house, 1874-1882. Became manager Northwestern Miller, Minneapolis, 1882, and its editor, 1886-1924. Established The Bellman, 1906, was its editor and manager until 1919, when discontinued its publication.
President Miller Public Company until retirement, 1924.
In 1891, organized movement through which American millers gave shipload of flour for the relief of Russian peasants. Personally superintended its collection, shipment and distribution.
Received gold flagon from Emperor of Russia in recognition of services. In 1914, directed Millers’ Belgian relief movement, chartered South.S. South Point and therein carried cargo of flour, valued at $500,000, to Rotterdam, when it was delivered to Belgium.
Personally accompanied this contribution to destination and inspected method of distribution, coöperating with Commission for Relief in Belgium.
In 1917, assisted Herbert Hoover, food administrator, in perfecting organization, regulating and controlling American milling industry during the war. In 1918, at request of British Ministry of Information, went to Great Britain, where he made addresses and wrote articles concerning the war spirit of the Northwest. Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Couronne (Belgium).

Received bronze medallion from Comite National de Secours et d’Alimentation, Brussels, in recognition of relief work.
