Commissioned 2d. Lieutenant infantry, Reg. Army, 1917 and advanced through the grades to brigadier general. Served in France and Germany, 1917-1922.

Professor military science and tactics, University of South Dakot, 1925-1931. Philippine Islands, 1932-1935. General Staff duty, 3d Army Corps, 1940-1941.

Foreign service since 1941.
