Career
Served for 22 years in active Militia, and since 1883 in permanent Militia. Saw active service during Fenian Raids of 1866 and 1870 (medal with two clasps). North-West Rebellion of 1885 in command of the Battleford column (medal with one clasp).
Boer War of 1899-1900 (medal with four clasps). During latter, in command of first contingent from Canada (The Royal Canadian Regiment). Adjutant and Commandant, Canadian teams of 1873 and 1883, to Wimbledon.
Command of Royal School of Infantry, 1883-1899. Command of Doctor of Medicine No. 2; 1886- 1905; Western Ontario, 1905-1908. C. V.O. 1908; late Royal Canadian Regiment; Chief of the General Staff, Canada.
