Career

1 son, William Gaulbert, Junior Commissioned Second lieutenant infantry, June 1912 and advanced through the grades to major general, January 25, 1945. Commanded 8th Machine Gun Btn., 3d div., World War I. Became professor military science and tactics, University of Wisconsin, July 1937.

Assigned to Infantry Replacement Center, Camp Roberts, California, commanding 16th Infantry Training Group and 17th Infantry Training Regiment April-December 1941, then transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Texas to command 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division to July 1942. Assigned to 3d Detachment, 2d Army troops, Camp Gordon, Georgia, overseas September 1942. Chief of staff and field deputy commander Supply Services, European Theater of Operations to July 1944.

Assistant div. commander 90th Infantry Division, July-November 1944. Commander 8th Infantry Division, November 1944-February 25, 1945. Retired from active service as major general, February 1946.
