William H. Pfahler

Pfahler, William H. was born on March 27, 1844 in Columbia, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Henry and Mary Pfahler.

Education

Educated in schools of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Millersville (Pennsylvania) State Normal School. Left to enter Union Army as private, March 1862, and served 3 years in 45th Pennsylvania Volumes. Discharged at end of war as First lieutenant and regimental quartermaster.

Regiment served during entire war with Burnside, 9th Army Corps, and participated in battles of Antietam, South Mountain, Vicksburg, Knoxville, Tennessee, and last of Grant’s campaign from the Wilderness to the close of war.

Career

Associated with Abram Cox Stove Company, 1885, of which was treasurer. President Model Heating Company Organized and later president National Founders’ Association. Assisted in organizing National Metal Trades Association.

Honorary member administrative council of two bodies. One of original committee of 7 which organized Committee of 70 which brought about overthrow of political ring which had ruled Philadelphia With Senator Marcus A. Hanna was associated in organizing Civic Federation (member executive council).
