Captain, January 16, 1864. Bvtd. major, March 13, 1865. Mustered out July 17, 1865.

Awarded medal of honor Entered general agency Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York at Philadelphia, 1866. Became partner in management, 1872, general agent, 1887, manager, 1901-1904, trustee, 1907. Pres department charities and correction, Philadelphia, 1892-1899.

Mem board directors, city trusts, June 1899 (vice president since 1910). Author of Lincoln Literature, The Faith of Abraham Lincoln, and other published addresses. Made notable collection of Lincoln and Thackeray literature and manuscripts.
