Staake, William Heaton was born on December 5, 1846 in Brooklyn. Son of Frederick and Sopsia Smith (Heaton) Staake.


Bachelor of Arts, Central High School, Philadelphia, 1865, A.M., 1870. Bachelor of Laws, University of Pennsylvania, 1868.


Admitted to Pennsylvania bar, March 14, 1868. Practiced at Philadelphia. Judge Court of Common Pleas Northern 5 for Company of Philadelphia, May 16, since 1906.

Commissioner from Pennsylvania, since 1901, chairman commission from Pennsylvania, and chairman of the executive committee National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (president 1915-1916). Delegate and secretary National Divorce Congress. Commissioner to codify divorce laws of Pennsylvania.

Secretary board having charge of Independence Hall and its history museums and collections. Member Municipal Civ. Service Examining Board Director Mary J. Drexel Home and Philadelphia Mother House of Deaconesses (president), Maternity Hospital, Philadelphia (president).
