Educated Dickinson College. Became civil and mechanic engineer.

Career

Major General Brown, United States of America Appointed, April 1861, Second lieutenant 3d United States infantry, and in May, First lieutenant. Served through Civil War in Army of Potomac. Colonel 15th New Jersey vols., April 1863.

Brigadier general vols., 1865. Won bvts. through all grades in regular army to brigadier general. After war promoted through regular grades to colonel, 1893, and was in command 16th infantry when retired March 10, 1896.

Residence: Salt Lake City, Utah.
