Second lieutenant 5th United States.C.T., 1864-1865. Was wounded in front of Richmond, Virginia, October 27, 1864.

Ordained Congleton ministry, 1869. Pastor Watertown, Wisconsin, 1869-1870. Professor Greek language and literature, Oberlin College, 1870-1877.

Pastor First Congressional Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1877-1888.
