Joined Royal Marine Lieutenant Infantry, 1867. Served in His Majesty’s Ship “ Royal Alfred,” flagship North. America and West. Indies, 1869-1874. Commanded Royal Marines detachment in island of Ascension, 1878-1881, and subsequently that of His Majesty’s Ship “Boadicea,” flagship Cape of Good Hope, 1881-1882.
Adjutant of Royal Marines battalion in East. Soudan, 18S4.
Garrison Adjutant, Suakim, 1624 Ap.-September 1884. Commanded two companies Royal Marines attached to Guards Camel Corps, Nile Expedition, 1884-1885.
